The Duo Tela Marinera visited the Cathedral of Cologne, it is an impressive construction, no one can deny it. Its towers reach 157 meters high. It is one of the most impressive Gothic temples in Europe and we assure you that it will not leave anyone indifferent. Built in the center of the city, the silhouette stained black by time can be seen from many places, be it at the end of a street, from one of the bridges that cross the Rhine or from many of the city squares.

Its exterior is a cluster of flying buttresses, pinnacles and gargoyles. There are so many elements that are part of the architecture of the Cologne Cathedral, so many objects that decorate the building, that personally give us a feeling of immensity and heaviness. This may be accentuated by the dark color of much of the building. What is certainly not lacking are any of the characteristic elements of the Gothic.

The inside of the Cathedral of Cologne, with 144 meters long and 86 wide (in the apse, 45 meters in the central naves), it is much more stylized than its exterior. Entering this temple is surprising above all because from the outside it is difficult to recognize the height of the building, among so many pinnacles and flying buttresses. The central nave of the cathedral rises much higher than one might expect.

Its stylized columns separate the five naves that on sunny days are flooded with light thanks to the infinity of windows on the walls. Some retain the original stained glass windows, which were saved from the bombings of World War II by being dismantled. In the rest, new stained glass windows were installed when the Cathedral was restored at the end of that war, a restoration that took 11 years and was possible thanks to the fact that, despite the obvious damage, the structure was intact.

Recommended and mandatory visit if you go near Cologne. You will be shocked! With the immensity of the Cathedral.
