Duo Tela Marinera in Cochem Castle (Reichsburg Cochem), located on the banks of the Moselle River, in the city of Cochem, western Germany, was first mentioned in history in the year 1051. Count Palatine Ezzo is believed to be the founder of the castle, having built it around the year 1000.

We could talk about many dates in the history of the castle, but let's go straight to March 1689, the French set fire to the castle and then blew it to pieces. The invaders also wiped out the city of Cochem, destroying it almost entirely. The castle lay in ruins until 1868, when it was purchased by a Berlin businessman named Louis Ravenet. Shortly after the acquisition, Ravenet began a long period of reconstruction of the castle.

The restoration was carried out in the popular negotamic style, which reflected the romantic currents that prevailed in Germany at the end of the 19th century. This trend led many noble and wealthy people in Germany to buy and revive ruins, mainly old castles, to use as summer residences. In addition, the Ravenay family stayed for a long time in the castle, Cochem being their residence in the summer months.

Cochem Castle, to this day, is richly furnished with fine examples of Renaissance and Baroque furniture belonging to the Raven family. Since 1978, it has been owned by the city of Cochem.
VISIT: You can visit the castle without reservation with a guide in different languages at different times of the day, but if you don't want to wait, you can always join any visit with a brochure in your language. The visit lasts 40 minutes and costs 7€ for adults and 3.50€ for children. For the parking it has to be down in the town of Cochem in the blue zone, to get to the castle you have to walk 15 min uphill from the town.

It's worth it, the views from above and taking the opportunity to take a walk through the town before or after is very beautiful, we were lucky to find the market. Good trip in history.
